What is an artist’s book?
When my son, Alexander, looked at this book I created inside the latest issue of Somerset Studio Gallery Magazine (Stampington & Company) he was confused by the visual layout and spread. I could empathize with him completely and immediately traveled back to the first time I heard the phrase “artist’s book”. It took me several attempts at asking a question to the artist before I could really understand what it was she had created and why she would do such a thing and lastly who would be interested in an “artist’s book” anyway!!! To artist’s, their work is ordinary or common or understood. This assumption, on the part of the artist, removes from the creative world and keeps them on the outside of the inner circle or inner-workings of what an artist is really trying to share.
