Magazine Display
Create a "Wall of Fame" with up-cycled men's neck-ties for magazine display.
Do you love clutter? I don’t, but clutter happens. Clutter, in a creative space, is a natural part of the creative process. When it comes to my clutter I am a bit of a control freak. I don’t like anyone touching, disrupting, or rifling through my precious materials . As a green artist, working mostly with found papers, you can easily imagine what my clutter looks like. Paper tends to pile up quickly. Piles of paper or any kind of messy accumulation of anything is never a good thing.
But, I do make clutter exceptions! My very precious clutter piles must be close at hand with ease of access. The complimentary artist’s copies I’ve received from Stampington & Company, this past year and a half, are a celebration of my accomplishments and a reminder I am meeting and reaching my creative goals and dreams. I have tried every which way to store magazines; never satisfied I have honoured them to their rightful elevation in my studio.
As much as I am a control freak about my stuff I am also a control freak when it comes to corralling clutter. It’s strange, but if piles of stuff - a reflection of my creative to-do list - have a clear space all of their own, my life is more manageable, and creativity flows effortlessly.
Having magazines piled up suggests, I’ll get to my dreams one day when I’m organized. We all know that ‘one’ perfect day never comes. Dreams happen in the now, not in some future life we know nothing about. With small chunks of time spent, daily or weekly on organization, I reinforce positive habits clearing paths to my creative dreams. Creative dreams and life dreams are the same for me. Goal-setting and clutter clearing are daily habits I continue to refine and improve.
If my magazines are piled so are my dreams. In that pile my ideas get stuck and lost and forgotten. At this stage, creativity is not the focus but rather putting my creative dreams off until a future time is my focus. If this is where I am on my path, toward my dream I accept this as part of the dreaming process. Dreaming about dreams is the beginning of reaching for them.
Want to elevate your dreams to new heights? Why not take your magazines up off the desk or up from wherever they are stored and show them the dignity they deserve by creating your very own wall of fame. Whether you are a published artist or your dream is to become published a great way to create a map to your dreams is to create a magazine “wall of fame”.
If you’re not quite there with the wall of fame idea or already have a vision board that works for you by organizing your magazines up on the wall you will improve work flow. With a professional, organized, clutter-free work environment no doubt more time will be spent creating. It’s common sense, to me, if I clear my path of clutter I can attempt to meet my goals and potentially reach my dreams.
Create something beautiful with a magazine collection up on the wall. It beats the standard framed print anytime and will provide a conversation starter every time. When your next issue comes in just slip the old one out and the new one in! Who knows you might make the cover of the next issue just by focusing on your wall of fame as a reminder; the best is yet to come. Isn’t that what visual goal-setting and dreaming is all about? So clear the clutter and take your magazines up off your desk or out of the crowded book shelf and up onto the wall.
